Bucks County Department of Health to Spray for Mosquitoes at Tyler State Park May 31

Recent trappings of adult mosquitoes at Tyler State Park in Newtown Township have yielded a high concentration of the type known to transmit West Nile Virus.  In order to control the public risk of mosquito-born illness, the Bucks County Department of Health will be spraying within the boundaries of the park on Thursday evening, May 31. The treatment will be at dusk, after the park is closed to the general public.

The spray will be held in conjunction with officials from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PADEP) West Nile Virus program. In an ongoing, interagency effort to protect the community, the Health Department receives a PADEP West Nile Virus grant to cover county costs in wages, equipment and chemicals.

According to the Health Department, the application will involve less than one ounce of pesticide per acre, which will have no effect on wildlife or vegetation. To avoid the possibility of inhaling the pesticide, residents living near the park borders are advised to close all windows from 7:30-9 p.m
