A simple October question on Reddit hit a nerve fast. One poster in the r/BucksCountyPA thread said they noticed Bucks County Playhouse did not seem to have a Rocky Horror show on deck this year and asked where else around Bucks County people could catch a stage production, screening, or shadow cast. In New Hope, that is the kind of question people actually care about. Rocky Horror is not just another title on a calendar. For a lot of locals, it is part of Halloween month.

Bucks County Playhouse has not publicly cleared up the question

What is confirmed so far is fairly narrow.

The Reddit post exists. The question is real. And as of publication, Bucks County Blog has not independently confirmed a 2026 production, film screening, or shadow-cast event tied to Bucks County Playhouse in New Hope.

That does not prove the theater is done with Rocky Horror. It does mean local fans do not have a clear public answer yet.

The Playhouse has been actively publicizing other work this year. A Patch report surfaced through Google News in September about the Playhouse staging Rock of Ages, and a BroadwayWorld item, also via Google News, reported in July that the theater would stage RENT. That public drumbeat around other titles is part of why people noticed Rocky Horror was not showing up in the usual fall chatter.

The Reddit poster also mentioned Tim Curry while asking about local options. That part of the thread was community chatter, not something the post itself sourced, and Bucks County Blog is not treating it as a confirmed local news fact.

For now, the safest reading is this: theatergoers in Bucks County are looking for Rocky Horror listings, and the Playhouse has not made the answer obvious enough to settle the question on its own.

New Hope has treated Rocky Horror like an October regular

This is not coming out of nowhere. New Hope has long been one of the county’s most theater-friendly towns, and the Playhouse has roots in the old summer-stock era. As background, the venue has been a cultural anchor on the river since the 1930s, and its modern revival helped put big musical titles back in the center of town.

There is also evidence Rocky Horror has been part of that recent identity. An NBC10 Philadelphia story from October 2025, linked through Google News reported that The Rocky Horror Show was back at Bucks County Playhouse, and a Philadelphia Gay News piece from 2023, again visible through Google News, reported on a prior Playhouse run.

So local fans are not inventing a tradition that never existed. They are reacting to a title that has shown up in New Hope before and, in a town like this, felt like it might keep showing up.

That is also why the question is different from asking whether a random touring show skipped town. Rocky Horror in New Hope fits the place. Camp, cult status, audience participation, late-night energy. It makes sense here in a way that it might not in every suburb.

Anyone new to the town can get that flavor from our recent look at New Hope’s river-town history. It has always been a place that leans into arts, performance, and a little bit of weirdness. That is said as a compliment.

What This Means for Bucks County Residents

If you were counting on a New Hope Rocky Horror night as part of your October routine, you may need a backup plan.

It also helps to separate three different things that often get lumped together. A live stage production of The Rocky Horror Show is one thing. A movie screening of The Rocky Horror Picture Show is another. A shadow cast, where performers act along with the film, is a third. One venue can skip all three, host one of them, or add a single-night event late in the month.

In Bucks County, fans usually keep an eye on a mix of live theaters and movie houses. That starts with the County Theater in Doylestown and The Newtown Theatre for repertory film possibilities, then stretches to places like Sellersville Theater 1894 and Bristol Riverside Theatre for adjacent Halloween-season programming, tribute nights, or musical theater alternatives.

None of that is the same as saying those venues have confirmed Rocky Horror events this year. It means those are the places Bucks residents tend to watch when October calendars start filling in.

And if the Playhouse stays out of the Rocky Horror lane this season, the crowd does not disappear. It just spreads out. Some people will head south toward Philadelphia. Some will cross the river. Some will settle for another spooky-season show and complain about it in the parking lot. That, too, is a fall tradition.

Where Bucks County fans should check next

Until Bucks County Playhouse answers the question directly, local theater fans are left doing what they always do in October: stalking calendars.

This is a developing local culture story, not a solved one. If you have firsthand information from a confirmed venue listing, a box office email, or a theater staff member in Bucks County or the New Hope area, send it to Bucks County Blog or drop it in the comments. We will keep following it.

If you are making plans now, the practical move is simple: check venue calendars twice, especially in the second half of October, and let us know if a local shadow cast or screening pops up before Halloween weekend.
